On the system level, we need to talk about Darwin. And the version information is crucial, as the platform is evolving rapidly. So, for example: powerpc-darwin-5.3 i386-darwin-5.3 >From our point of view, Mac OS X is basically Darwin with extra libraries, headers, applications etc. These differences don't, in my opinion, warrant using a different platform name. Instead, there needs to be another way to establish dependencies (ie. "requires CoreGraphics" or "requires AppleScript"). I suspect there's a similar requirement for the Windows platform.
