Why?
Following the recent politics and activities in the FIG this sounded crazy
at first. However, the more I think about it the more sense it makes. I
think Paul's service, persistence, and tenacity would be greatly suited to
the role.

I believe the secretary role has led to multiple instances of over-stepping
by some carrying the title, and I think it is hurting the FIG despite the
desire to improve it. The secretaries have taken too much of a leadership
position rather than making their actual duties their main focus. I believe
Paul will be instrumental in helping others in the secretary role perform
the duties asked asked of them, without over-stepping. Paul is well known
for his vocal, and no nonsense nature when guiding others in accordance to
the bylaws and mission of the FIG, and I think he will be an asset in the
secretary position. This is the type of leadership that is needed amongst
the secretaries, to ensure they are aiding the members in a constructive
way.

Having Paul as a secretary will facilitate allowing members to focus on
important things, and help remove the political distractions from the work
at hand.
