$columntotals[$count] = $columntotals[$count] + $sum;
                                     ^---------------------^
                                           ERROR HERE

Seem you tried to assign columntotal[index]  with itself and you never
defined it. You should tried this one.

=> $columntotals[$count] = $sum;

Is right?

Sorry, I confuse with your words "total of totals"?
