I looked at the Dreamhost.com offer and all I can say is WOW! They are
offering an enormous amount of disk space and bandwidth. I am almost
tempted to sign up with Dreamhost. I just have one problem: When hosting
companies start offering more and more bandwidth, they tend to attract users
who are consuming those huge amounts of bandwidths. And this being shared
hosting, you are forced to share the same server with all those bandwidth
hogs! The server performance must surely suffer.

I remember the time of dial-up service. My dial-up provider used to be IBM
precisely because they offered only 100 hours per month of connection time
while all others were offering unlimited time. With IBM, I never had any
problem getting online, since they discouraged people who wanted to surf a
lot. I never had any need to surf more than 4 hours per day so it suited me
just fine. Some of my friends who used the "unlimited" services were always
complaining that they had trouble connecting.

My site is not a bandwidth hog. Heck, I am lucky to get a few hundred
visitors per week. The same is true of most other sites. I love the
personalized service offered by Zentrifugal and I am not willing to give it
up for bandwidth that I am never going to use.

For $100/year, a 100MB account with 2GB transfer isn't much. I have an
account at jiffynet.net for $100/year with 1G storage and 100G transfer.
It allows 50 add on domains, 50 databases, unlimited email/ftp accounts.

 I have another account on dreamhost.com for $120/year 2.4G 120G
transfer. I got the account when they had their 7 years old sale, the
first 777 people got 77 cents a month accounts for a year. Their current
sale triples the disk space and bandwidth you get as long as you keep
your account. They also have a community atmosphere, with forums, voting
on new hosting features, a newsletter, and dreamhost site of the month.
