indeed, but we are talking at cross purposes.

They are being divided as they are being added.

It's the same sort of thing.  But as I know some FTP programs limit you
to 2000, and I looked up why ('slows the server down'), I assumed that
it might be an issue.

The tens of thousands of files on my server were never actually used...
I need to rebuild them, better quality, better numbering system, so I
thought that separate folders would be more elegant, and possibly
faster.

And I couldn't imagine you having anything to do with real estate, I
thought that you were a Book Person.  And older books, at that.
