----- Original Message ----- From: "huaracheveloz69" Hi,
I am looking to have a site that uses mysql and PHP. Can you recommend a hosting service that is good ie. cheap, reliable etc. Thanks, Javier ------------------------------ I was previously going to set up a hosting business but I never found the time to do the boring HTML for the web site. I have all the services including domain registration but not the time to develop it. Of course I had to research reseller hosting accounts before I made the selection that I did. Hosting is actually dirt cheep. What you actually pay for is the technical support that helps you from time to time and also maintains the server should there be a crash/hack. What is best for you depends on your specific needs. If you will be wanting support for PHP issues then you will need to pay more for a provider that offers this assistance. If you are confident with basic server management down to the level of Apache (ie: htaccess files etc...) then you can get a cheaper account as you will not need as much support. If you want to host several sites and or have a lot of web traffic then bypass the onsellers and go get a resellers account directly. If you want the latest versions of software then have a look at what a hosting provider currently has on their servers. Don't accept anything less that 99.9% uptime on a resellers account. Some cheaper user hosting packages are 99.5% uptime. In the end I selected a hostgator.com reseller account as they are cheep, reliable and provide good support for server specific problems. They do not offer much by way of other support for resellers as resellers are expected to know how to resolve those issues that can be resolved remotely. They also have user accounts and I would expect that the user accounts offer more support. At the other end of the scale are providers such as pair.com who offer excellent support services but you end up paying for it in the long run. If you want to see what services are available on hostgator then I can set up a hosting account for you at no charge. Who knows, perhaps you may give me the incentive to finish that project or even share some of the hosting costs with me. Thanks, Rob.
