Sorry if this kind of an easy but can someone advise me on how to add a
value for upload_tmp_dir? I have php4.3.4 installed on a w2k3 server
running postnuke and mysql5. I notice in phpinfo.php that upload_tmp_dir
says no value even though the directory is defined in the php.ini file.
This is preventing me from adding images via the Gallery app so I'm
wondering if anyone could advise on how to resolve this.

Thanks

Hi

I have a few clients that have upgraded to PHP 5 for development projects
and I am running into problems with class object naming for all my classes
and COM objects that use.... '$this->'

$this = new COM ( 'ibmTransate.Server' );

$this->MimeType = 'text/' . ( $key->type == '1' ? 'text' : 'html' );

PHP Fatal error: Cannot re-assign $this in
j:\www\docs\www\sys\lib\functions.php on line 2189

I have been using '$this->' for a long time in 1000's of projects that I
have worked on and sold! This really worries me because I will have to spend
many hours changing '$this->' in all my class files and scripts that use
this + I will have to contact each client and fix this, this will involved
more time because many projects are encoded.

I would have never thought that a common word as 'this' would be labeled as
a 'PHP' reserved word! Anyway could you please post a list of all words that
will be deemed 'reserved' in PHP 5!

Sonia

Hi Sonia,

You have a quick view for the changes in http://www.php.net/zend-engine-2.php

But you will see that $this-> is not a change. $this has been a reserved word in PHP 4, so it is not a new reserved word. $this is ALREADY a reserved word and you shouldn't be using it the way you are.

I think a hard work is waiting for you to fix it...

Regards,
Jordi.

This is really a mySQL question, not a php question.

Say you just want to up-date (ie. REPLACE) the value of just one field within a mysql record with many fields.

Is there a way to do it without tediously re-setting all the existing field values?

eg.

You have a table with:

fld-name fld-value
-------------------
fld1 abc (PRIMARY KEY)
fld2 def
fld3 xzy
fld4 whatever

and you just want to change say fld4 to 'something else'.

The only way I can see to do it is by tediously setting up a query like:

REPLACE INTO table SET fld1='abc', fld2='def', fld3='xyz', fld4='something else'

if you try and say :

REPLACE INTO table SET fld1='abc', fld4='something else'

it sets fld2 and fld3 to null :-(.

Anyone know an easy way to get mysql to retain non-key values not explicitly set in a replace call?

Just use:

UPDATE table SET fld1= 'foobar' WHERE some-condition

or RTM... =)

Anyone that has the source for a good php sci-calculator?

I'm currently running PHP 4.3.6 on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4 box
with IIS 5.0 and MySQL 4.0.18. I was able to install everything ok and have
phpMyAdmin running to admin the MySQL database (that script is a godsend!).

The problem I'm having is with a 3rd party PHP address book script that I'm
trying to run and configure by Liqua Web Solutions called WBContacts. I
have been able to install, configure, and admin this script fine on a Unix
test box, but have been unsuccessful so far in getting it to run
successfully in a Windows environment.

I've contacted the script's author and he's being a big help in trying to
help me get this up and running, but I was wondering if anyone here has run
into this kind of thing before?

Thanks,
