It would indeed make editing and updating them much easier, if you are
using the same content descriptions on every page of the site.  I rather
doubt that every page of your site really matches the same description,
though.  Others have talked about how little META information affects
search engine rankings anymore.  In large part, this is due to
unscrupulous web designers who packed their META tags with popular search
terms even when they had nothing to do with their web site (I wonder how
many web pages had 'Britney Spears' in their meta keywords back when
Google relied more on webmasters being honest about their content), and
made looking at META information for real information about a web page
practically useless.

In this case, having the META keywords and description already coded into
the page or set in text files that would be accessed when the pages are
requested seems like it likely wouldn't make much difference in ease of
editing.  (again, unless you're using the same keywords and description
for every page.)
