1) Do I need to have my website on a different machine during development or can I run the PHP and MySQL directly on my windows machine while I am creating it? (You know create and view the page on your own machine before uploading to your server)\
You can install apache Server, php and MySql on your PC that you are developing your php pages on (I use ExpertEditor, but simply because it was reasonably priced and does what I need it to do (mostly). You might ensure you have a good sized RAM and a fast-ish processor of course... Get Apache from http://www.apache.org/ Get php from http://www.php.net/ Get MySql from http://www.mysql.com/ Get Expert Editor from http://www.ankord.com/phpxedit.html (Now on 30 day free trial) 2) Another problem is I have windows XP - do I need to get NT for this to work? Nope, XP is just fine for MOST situations. 3) Should I just learn how to use PHP and MySQL right off the bat instead of trying to change the osCommerce store? Dont know, sorry. 4) Can I have multiple client accounts - using password protection and then giving them the option to create, update, and delete their items information and specs on osCommerce store database? Password functionality is available of the shelf. Some solutions can be found at httP://www.codewalkers.com, there are various solutions depending upon the level of security and complexity needed. You might try using PEAR, though I am not a fan . 5) Will osCommerce even work for my desired online classifieds situation? Sorry, Cant help. Good Luck John. Kizzie.
