SELECT... ... LIMIT 5?

You have a counter, set to 0, and incremented, but never read.

But this is (probably) not correct.  If you want 5 records, and there
are 20,000 in the database, why bring back all 20,000 then only use 5?  

You should only ever bring back what you need, and no more.  For speed.
