It has not happened to me yet, but I know a guy to who it did happen. He went for an interview as a web designer: Morning time was interviews, meet the company, this is what we do, etc. Afternoon was sitting down in front of a pc with a web application with a simple task: redesign this interface. The idea was to see if he had any interesting design ideas and if he could actually create the code to produce the design.
Ten years ago or so you might have been able to get away with faking it but these days the managers who will be interviewing you are ex-programmers themselves and wont be blinded by science.
