Is there some special reason why those three functions are not included
in the manual, or at least why there's no link to them?

It seems to me that they're working pretty well, but without being
included in the manual the reader might have the impression that PDO
doesn't support PostgreSQL's Large Objects interface, which could be the
reason for not using PDO at all.
