Hi Hannes,

Don't misunderstand me please. We will be making the docs as good as we can. Remember I am coming in cold to this so I will need some time to get familiar with the PHP way of doing things and find my way around.

Note I said specifically 'mysqli'. I thought a good starting point was to fill in some gaps in the existing documentation. That'll help me get familiar with how things are done. But 'other projects' includes PHP related docs including new docs for mysqlnd and PDO_MYSQL, as well as other tasks associated with PHP. No, we are dedicated to this and will be investing many hours - but can we take one step at a time please?

Also, I'm not completely ruling out throwing out the existing documentation, but I need some time to get familiar with what we do have and to understand how it can best be restructured. In the mean time I think we can do a lot to improve it by documenting functions that have no documentation at all.

From your email I understand you've been waiting a long time for something to happen and maybe some frustration has built up, but rest assured we are on the case and we do care! :)

Thanks,
Tony

Hannes,

Hopefully this patch will do it.

My plan on mysqli docs is just to fill in some of the current gaps.
Unfortunately, I don't have too much time available due to several other
projects that need my attention. I'll see what I can do though.

That is extremely disappointing as I had hoped you guys could give us
a hand making your docs readable.

I could have ducktaped it myself, by adding a paragraph here and maybe
a note there, but that wouldn't have solved anything. Sure, I probably
would have closed a bug or two, so it would look very well if I had a
boss watching over my shoulder, but in the end it would have only
created more confusion and pisspoor user experience.
The docs are almost worthless in their current state, even if your
ducktape is better then mine. What they need is structure.

For 8months now I've been waiting for a guy to seriously look into
this issue with me. Every now and then I hear "yeah, its on the plan
for this quarter" and the occasional "as soon as he finishes his
current project".. Great. Now I have straight up answer at least.

So I guess what I'm saying: If you people don't care, I don't care.

Good luck

-Hannes
