This message is coming directly from your LDAP server (PLA does no
authorisation).

So, it would imply that you are not using (ie: Your LDAP server is not
being authenticated by) the same user with PLA as you are using with the
server's LDAP web interface.

For this, I would suggest you enable debugging in your LDAP server to
see what the difference is between the two sessions.
