I am using the above files pulled from the PIDA Debian package in my package for Fedora. Although the online manual page needs some work, is it possible that the pida.desktop be included in the upstream tarball for installation in /usr/share/applications? That remove the necessity for writing separate pida.desktop files for different distributions.
