Attached is a patch with proposed interface changes to visitors to match my
suggestion in comment

I apologize for all the extraneous changes in there, as I also changed
ParseException to VisitorException and that added 2-4 lines from a bunch of
files. The relevant files to look at are PlanVisitor, PlanWalker,
DependencyOrderWalker, DepthFirstWalker, and LOVisitor. Changes to the
existing visitors is quite small. All they need to do is instantiate the
appropriate type of walker at construction time.
Hopefully this will give us an idea of how the visitors would look and work in
that propsoal.
