I keep getting reminded of them when I tab-complete "string_", but my main objection is the confusing name. If they were called string_to_utf16/utf16_to_string, as Arne suggests, then they wouldn't be confusing; I'm not sure they're even needed at all, but they aren't a *problem* per se. ChrisA
