Hi there! First of all, great software! Simple, intuitive, gets things done: without prior experience with any video editing software, I could make it do what I wanted in 3 minutes.
But I have a fringe usability issue: How can I manually set certain audio curve segments back to level 100%? Some details: We are using PiTiVi to dub a cartoon. I have the individual sentences recorded, and now I need to mix these short clips into the original, 10-minute clip. This means the long clip will have dozens of short segments faded down to 0%, whereas the rest should stay at 100%. With all the double-clicking and dragging going on (there are kids involved, and I'm not infallible either), we sometimes inevitably move the keyframes or segments that are supposed to remain unchanged at 100%. Now it's easy to drag the red line all the way to the top to restore 100% solidness for video, but I'd need to hit the middle with audio! Any tips? Plunging into the code is not beyond me, but I severely lack access to HCI design monke^Hexpertise. My idea would be an optional "snap" and color cue for 100% audio level. (Or more generally, a precisely adjustable ruler to snap to.) Making curve segments and keyframes selectable just for this seems overkill. Some other remarks on areas of possible improvement, again, prefaced with how great this tool already is: I wanted to complain how the resolution of the audio amplitude envelope visualization is limited, but zooming into the sentence level words are still distinguishable, so it's good enough for me. But my short flac audio-only clips seem to have no visual representation. Visualization of the aggregate audio, with warning signs for clipping would be nice. (optionally by estimation or precise mixing.) It's also unclear how multipass video codecs are supposed to be configured in the Project Settings screen: do I have to manually render twice switching from "pass 1" to "pass 2" in between? I'm also not sure how I could render audio only, and just copy the video from the single, unedited video clip in the project, but I can always just replace the rendered video with the original without re-encoding in avidemux. And it would be nice to be able to use mono audio clips in PiTiVi, setting the stereo pan using a curve in sync with the action in the video.
