Dear Dixie --
Mine is a microadenoma -- but it is secreting Cortisol -- I have extremely high blood
pressure that responds to no medications well. My other pituitary levels also bounce
with the Cortisol.
I have had it for some time -- they did a dynamic MRI at OHSU and found it -- however, I brought MRI's with me from the last few years that had been done locally
and read as negative for tumor -- they could see it on those too. Sometimes, from
my personal experience, local radiologists don't know what they are looking for.
My symptoms are sheer, utter and overwhelming fatigue that comes out of nowhere.
I used to be able to work 60 hours a week and then some. But I have had more and more unusual bouts of fatigue with the last few years and now they come and go daily. My estrogen replacement therapy does not work well despite large doses.
My Free T4 bounces like a rubber ball. My local doctor runs it every three weeks and we are always amazed at what it is because it never makes any sense. It can
be higher or lower despite the dosage but it was explained to me that the Cortisol
secretion is manipulating the thyroid. I have bouts of acne on and off.
This is the first time in many years of marriage that I did not feel well enough to have
the family for Thanksgiving. It was very sad for me -- my daughter-in-law had it and
did a lovely job.
The Cortisol secretion is or seems to be predictably predominant from eleven pm
on until about 3 am -- my blood pressure soars -- it also comes and goes during
the day. I feel wonderful for a while and then awful. It is like a light switch going on
and off in my head.
They have determined that I have no diurnal rhythm to my cortisol secretion.
They have not determined if my daughter has it or not yet, and are awaiting completion of test results.
I believe it is familiar as to looking back at all the early deaths from sudden heart
attacks in the paternal side of my family. But back then, they really did not have
the technology to detect why people dropped dead in their 40's other than that they
had "heart attacks."
Katherine
Dear Katy,
Hope you are having a good thanksgiving.
Please excuse the questions if you've already told us, but I am
wondering how big is your tumor? How long have you had it? What are
your symptoms?
Does your daughter also have a pit tumor?
Do you suppose it is hereditary? Or do you have other ideas?
Thanks, Katy, and good luck to you.
Dixie
