Does anyone know how specific DHEAS test is for determining a true hypopituitary or adrenal insufficiency problem if it's low? I had found a site on my old computer that was great for explaining lab values and possible causes of highs and lows.... now on my new computer I can't find it, so I'm going by memory on what I know about this test. I believe the site said the DHEAS is high with a pheochromocytoma ? sp, and low with hypopituitarism and either adrenal insufficiency and/or adrenal hyperplasia. Mine was normal so I'm wondering if I'm worrying too much about my low pit hormones but I really don't know how specific and important this test is. I know my results but was too sick Friday to go in and talk to doctor about these results. Can't get back in until January so I thought I'd get others knowledge and ideas about this test. One thing that came out low was my insulin level. All this time I've focused on my thyroid and pituitary gland and now I find out some of my problems could be from my diabetes. It's mostly my fault... I put it on the back burner. All my doctors ignore my diabetes because my control numbers have been good. I did try telling one doctor that I couldn't eat enough at one time... that's how I keep my numbers so good but, she didn't pay any attention. Even a dietician told me I should be able to eat more carbs at one time and I basically wasn't eating enough and I should talk to my doctor. The doctor looked at my control number and said your fine. Then all these crazy symptoms started and I found out about problems with thyroid and pituitary gland and I guess I didn't put enough importance on my diabetes. I was diagnosed two years ago and this is the only doctor to check my insulin level. Well, just thought I'd run this by everyone. Lisa |
