Jean,

I do experience ocular (my docs refer to them as "optical") migraines. I experience nausea, blurry vision, floaters, lines, dizziness, sometimes-blackouts...and one time I even lost sight in my left eye for five minutes! That was scary. My migraines are getting worse. I take indomethacin daily for my daily dull 24/7 head pains. The indomethacin does not help my severe migraines.

I usually sleep when I have an optical migraine. I probably get one at least once a month. I do not know the specific triggers. I avoid migraine triggers (chocolate, caffeine, aged cheese, msg, citrus fruits, etc...flourescent lighting, strobe lights, flashing lights, stripes, and patterns also trigger my migraines. I used to have constant blurry vision, floaters, and even double vision. My sight got dramatically worse in the past several years. I am not sure of the cause. I used to blackout a lot (with migraines,) but since I educated myself  about the causes, I rarely do now.

My first symptoms of the tumor and hormonal imbalance were optical migraines, loss of vision, and nausea. My neuro told me they were caused by stress. Sure. Anyways...

I am not sure of the cause, but I would avoid any triggers that you can pinpoint. It took me years to discover my triggers. I have been suffering with optical migraines for seven years. Previously, I took Aleve daily for my daily migraines. I did that for 2-3 years. Then, I decided to just live with it as if it were normal. I slept them off for the most part.

My PCP prescribed Maxalt-10 for my migraines @ one time, but it did not work for me. It works for many other migraine sufferers, however. You may want to ask your doc about it. Indomethacin has been my miracle drug for my daily migraines, but it does not help the optical ones. I tried several prescription drugs before I found the indo. I have been on indo for almost two years.

Regarding Raynaud's, I also burn myself without feeling it. The other day I was playing a game and suddenly realized I was bleeding all over the cards and table. I had a cut on my hand...I have no idea how I cut it and I never felt it. I constantly hurt myself and never feel it. I take niacin and have not noticed any differences in my symptoms. I do not know what would help. I am considering taking evening primrose oil and maybe coenzyme Q-10. My limbs are constantly numb and tingling. If I sit for any length of time, my legs and feet will go numb. My arms and hands always go numb when I'm resting them anywhere. It's crazy! I twist my ankle all the time because I try to walk on it when it's still asleep.

I would love to find something to help the Raynaud's, I am still researching. It seems similar to the symptoms of diabetes. Do you have hypoglycemia or insulin resistance? I have both, I'm pre-diabetes. I wonder if my raynaud's has anything to do with my insulin resistance.

Well, I will continue to research and share information when I find it.

Take care. Happy New Year!
