Hi,

Well I know some - I have one that is being "watched" right now.  I have had nodules "come and go".  A couple of good places for information on nodules are www.thyroidmanager.org and www.forums.about.com/ab-thyroid.  On the about.com site you will need to register first, but it's free - many people have nodules - some are bothersome, some do abesolutely nothing, some produce excess thyroid hormone and some - about 4-5% are cancerous.  Some will be harmless but grow large and have to be removed.

What they will do is usually first an Ultrasound - then usually an FNA - http://www.thyroidmanager.org/FunctionTests/fnabiopsy-frame.htm - possibly depending on those results they may decide to do a I "believe" it's called a nuclear scan, I could have that wrong but it's where they determine if the nodule is "hot or cold" - that is where it's producing hormone or not.  If it is a hormone producing nodule - they usually opt to remove it.

On the FNA - if the nodule is less than 1 cm - it is hard to get clear cut results so the doctor may just monitor the nodule to see if it grows any before doing one.  That's is where I am at, mine was .8cm.  I go back 1/23.

Anything else?  Ask away - this is just a brief overview.  The ultrasound should show where it is, if there is a single nodule or multi's, cyst or solid.  They will schedule further tests from there.  Have they done any other thyroid tests or do you have thyroid disease?

I also have a prolactinoma (12 years) and Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroid Disease - 5 years.  Hashimoto's can cause your thyroid gland to swell and a TSH test will be useless to determine it - you need an antibodies test for it.  It also can cause nodules - lots of them. It will cause your thyroid gland to become misshapen.  TSH with Hashimotos will eventually become out of line but it may take 10-15 years for it to do so.

Hello.  I was diagnosed with a prolactnomia in August and i have been on Dostinex for 2 and a 1/2 months and feeling pretty good, but I have been having a little swelling for about 2 months( in the front of my neck), one simi swollen tonsil, little redness, and slight swelling of my glands on my right side.  Finally my doctor ordered a CT and nothing major was found, but they think I have a possible Thyroid Nodule, and I am getting a Thyroid Scan tomorrow. I had a TSH hormone test in October and nothing was found then.  But it might not be hormone related.  Does anybody know much about nodules, could they be related to my prolactnomia. I never have heard of these until now..  Thank You
