I did avoid taking spironolactone for my excess androgens. It is one and the same. I spelled it incorrecctly (a symptom of mine-I can never remember the correct spelling.) You should research the drug and then decide if you want to continue it.
 
My dermatologist was adamantly against me being on spironolactone, my endo advised it. I researched it and found that it causes tumors and various unwanted side effects, so I decided not to go on it. I still have the excess androgens and everything that it causes...excess hair, acne, messed up menses, etc.
 
Has it helped you? Have you noticed a decrease in your symptoms? Why did your doctor prescribe it? Were you diagnosed with PCOs?
