I agree with Minnie, it depends on the person and how far the disease has progressed.  I noticed when I was cushinoid, that it was a subtle change in the beginning but the further along I went, the faster I went down hill.  I will say a positive mental attitude does help, especially with the depression.  I remember telling myself even before I was diagnosed, "What ever I got isn't going to get me."  I also found that meditation worked to deal with the mood swings.  Once you know what is causing them you can tell yourself that it is NOT you, it is NOT your fault. 
Good luck and I hope the problem is found soon and corrected.
