I decided to take up Meri's suggestion and become a sign up at the American Brain Tumor Association's website and I brought up a PDF file about Pituitary tumors. Interesting, an article written by Dr. Laws at UVA... (neurosurgeon here.. lol)
"Pituitary tumors are believed to account for about 15% of all primary brain tumors making them the third most common primary brain tumor in adults following meningiomas and the gliomas. Although exact data on these tumors are not available on these tumors (most registries keep track of malignant braint umors only), it is thought as much as 20-25% of the general population may have small, symptomless pituitary tumors."
I find it interesting that the head endocrinologist at UVA (Dr. Vance), who I might add is also a professor of neurosurgery (but is not a neurosurgeon) differs with her colleague in the classification of pituitary tumors.
Interesting stuff.
They have a nice over-view of Brain Tumors too. You will have to register to read the article.
The articles are in the Library section.
