I have to disagree though. I had the dye and DID have a reaction. GRANT IT , I'm probably one of the million and one that would have something, but there is always a chance. YES...if you do the research (and believe me I have!!!) for the MRI contrast, it is suppose to be "very safe" with only a very very small percentage having any reaction to it. The reaction are mainly the warm flushing feeling, like Keri was talking about or a slight rash at the IV sight. For me though, and I'm still working on figuring out WHY, but I have a problem with the GAD (the MR contrast). There are about 4 different brands out on the market today used at the various hospitals/clinics that perform MRI's, like COKE, PEPSI, etc.....well...there is OMNISCAN, OMNIVIST, MAGNAVIST, and one more...I for the name at the present moment (sorry!)...I've tried all 4 and they all have the same effect on me. The cause neuro-like problems, where I get "seizure-like" episodes. I just had yet another MRI....the neuro wanted a 6 month MRI and was pissed I hadn't had one WITH contast...so I said FINE, lets have some FUN! I even got pre-medicated with Medrol (a steroid) before hand, which helped a little, but I still ended up in an episode. What upsets me more than the episode, is that the neuro and the radiologist back in January wanted the contrast to look for a microadenoma on the pituitart and to look over a 2mm cyst on my right midbrain, since the other MRI's have been without contrast. This last MRI WITH contrast now, they reported "No macroadenomas". That's it!!!! Whats' with that??!!?? No word about microadenomas...no checking out of the 2mm cyst...nothing!!!! I got more writing and info on the WITHOUT contrast than the the WITH. Anyways, I'm NOT saying that you should NOT try having the MRI WITHOUT contrast or that I'm trying to freak you out. You need to be the best consumer you can be and also that mine is still under investigation...the one in a million case. SO....to make a long story short....the MRI contrast CAN cause problems! I'm living proof!
