Actually, I have a story for you. I have a wonderful, wonderful neurosurgeon, Dr. McCutcheon, here in Texas, who has been managing my case locally for about 5 years, and truthfully, I always thought he would do my pituitary surgery when that day came. (Long story on how I went to OHSU - and I included Dr. McCutcheon on those discussions) About a year ago, I decided I wanted to do my scans elsewhere, because I didn't want him to have to look at my scans all of the time, because I felt bad to have to bug a pituitary neurosurgeon to look at my MRI's for change to my microadenoma. I asked him where, in Houston, could I have my scans done, where I could depend on the neuroradiologist to read my scans correctly. He laughed. The take home message is that you can't go anywhere and have a radiologist assigned to You to read Your scans that You can depend on. Yeah... I even tried taking prior scans and telling the neuroradiologists to direct compare to. Didn't work. ![]() I honestly don't think you need to travel all the way to OHSU to have your scans read in person. What I think is that in your part of the world, you can see if you can make an appt with one of the pitutiary neurosurgeons, or contact the hospital to see if they will do a patient not present consult to have the pituitary neurosurgeon read your films. You can tell them you have a pituitary microadenoma causing hyperprolactinemia and that your local radiologist cannot read the location of the tumor, and you need assistance. They do this. Dr. McCutcheon will do this. Dr. Laws at University of Virginia will do this too. If the docs can't isolate the location, then it may be worth the time to get a referral to a center that does dynamic imaging on a 1.5 tesla MRI to see if the machine can pick up the lesion (like OHSU), but check out your local options first. BTW... I had my post op follow up at OHSU last week and they have released me back home for long term follow up. I wonder if that means that I will have to bug Dr. M? lol Oh geez... guess I'll cross that bridge.... lol. |
