Dostinex and joints

Thanks for the response!  I've been reading up on the hormonal influence as well. Its very interesting how women are at such a higher risk of blowing an ACL then men!

I did come across something that may or may not be of interest.  I'm going to discuss this with my OS.  This is just FYI but please keep in mind the following was obtained from a really BAD source, NOT from medical research, so don't put too much stock in it.

When using "Dostinex and joints" in my search engine, I kept pulling up body-building anabolic steroid user sites.  Apparently body-builders use Dostinex in their  steroid "cycle" to counteract the decreased libido and gynecomastia that accompanies some of their other drugs.  So it got me to thinking.  Many of these guys are actually being followed by doctors, even though its illegal in the US, and they just might be aware of some drug effects that will never be published in medical journals because what they're doing is illegal to begin with.  Anyway, so I posted a question on one of their boards, asking if there was any known connection to Dostinex use and weakening the joint.  I got several replies that Dostinex is known to cause "micro-injuries" or "micro-tears" to tendons and ligaments.  Well, there's no clinical studies or scientific evidence to back those statements, and I'm not going to put too much stock in this considering the source, but I am going to discuss this with my OS.  If there's any truth to their statements, maybe I should stop the Dostinex for a few months while I go through surgery and rehabilitation, just in case the Dostinex DOES affect ligaments, it might interfere with my healing and recovery.

I won't stop the Dostinex without talking to both OS and Endo, BUT I have never had a visible tumor on my MRIs.  I was diagnosed with ideopathic hyperprolactinemia (ranges from 43 - 60) in 1992 and went without treatment until  November 2003, with no change in MRIs in all that time.....so Dostinex is really more of an option for me.  I take it to relieve the symptoms that bothered me rahter than for shrinking a tumor.  The irregular/absent periods and galactorrhea didn't bother me so much as the mood swings, anxiety, uncontrolled anger, insomnia and hotflashes.  Anyway, I think its worth a discussion with the OS.

I've searched the medical journals (my career is medical research/bench science, so I have full access to just about all medical journals) and I haven't been able to find ANYTHING on how Dostinex effects joints, even though joint pain and swelling is listed as a side effect.  I am very curious now as to what the mechanism is and what it Dostinex is doing that causes the swelling and pain.  Very curious!
