Other things can cause loss of consciousness including angina and shock. A person can go into shock due to a pituitary tumor, for example, if the tumor has put so much pressure on the pituitary that the pituitary is not functioning properly and is not stimulating other organs properly. If the adrenals are not being stimulated properly a pituitary patient can have secondary addisons disease caused by low cortisol. Someone with low cortisol can go into shock and lose consciousness due to severe stress (usually physical stress such as in an accident or illness.) In all cases loss of consciousness should be brought to the attention of all attending physicians. Jean in Oregon |
