Hi Hammerthumbs,

Short-term memory loss, cognitive dysfunction, and difficulty with word-finding/pronunciation is common in patients with pituitary tumors. I forgot the alphabet once and I was working at a bookstore at the time! I often say the wrong word, but I will be thinking the correct one. I have asked things like "Did you put the vaccuum in the fridge (when I meant the milk)?" I have constant word-finding and pronunciation difficulties, I have learned to just ask the person that I am talking to and describe what I mean the best I can. I used to be very articulate and precise in what I said-I used to debate, so I know how hard it is not being able to express what you want to say. I feel sorry for the kids I tutor because sometimes I insist that something is spelled incorrectly  (when it is spelled correctly) or tell them that there is no such word (I insisted that there is no such word as "rake"-my mind could not comprehend the word-they had to specifically tell me that you use a "rake" to "rake" leaves in the fall-then I remembered it. They thought I was nuts! Thank goodness they were young!) I have good and bad days with my memory and cognitive function. I learned to write everything down. I have post-it notes everywhere-otherwise I would forget everything!

Regarding the hot flashes, they are probably caused by an imbalance in your gonadal hormones. You should have your progesterone, estrogen, DHEA, and testosterone (LH, FSH, E2, DHEAS, and TEST) levels checked.

Take care.

Meri
