lboogie80, Yes, the cycle thing also happened to me. It was a funky (every two weeks instead of four) that led to my diagnosis of hypoerprolactinemia -- about 6 years AFTER I had first reported breast discharge to my doctor. Nobody checked prolactin until my cycle was irregular. There are *almost* no absolutes. Many doctors believe (and I belived -- from them) that prolactin levels <100 were usually idiopathic (no identifiable medical cause) rather than a prolactinoma -- yet there are many people here who have levels <100 AND have tumors. I have always had a period -- sometimes too many of them -- but I know that I do not always ovulate. I have chronically elevated prolactin (120 at highest measure) that is controlled by medication. My endo suspects that I have a prolactinoma, but two MRI's came back "normal" -- there are many cases here of MRI's that were misread, seeing no tumor when tumor was present and had been seen before. My advice for you is to take nothing for granted, ask all the questions you have (none of them are stupid!!), and take notes to keep track. YOu will learn a LOT from reading the posts on this board -- you'll develop a long list of questions for your doctor. There are other health consequences related to having untreated elevated prolactin -- things that resolve if it *is* treated. It will not go away on its own. If there is a pituitary endocrinologist in your area - or if your doctor can refer you to one in a neighboring town, there is really no substitute for the extent of their knowledge. |
