Hello. I don't know if I have much information to contribute, but I was just recently diagnosed as panhypopit. I am 41 years old, and I have been on growth hormone for only a month now. I am taking hormone replacement for everything except ACTH/adrenal. I will be on growth hormone for the remainder of my life. It is my understanding from talking with my endo that children who are hypopit are put on growth hormone must remain on it for the rest of their lives. My panhypopit is a result of Sheehan's syndrome and the birth of my last child. Kevin makes a very important suggestion. Your doctor should test all of the hormones from the pit. I was tested over a period of about 5 months. They first started treating my thyroid. When I went back with more complaints, then it was my female hormones. Then finally it was growth hormone. Now, I'm just waiting for it to be adrenal. I'm not very educated in the disease, but rather I'm learning as I go. Sure does seem to me that once you get treatment for one pit hormone, it can cause a strain on the other when you are in fact panhypopit. From what I have read so far, panhypopit is pretty rare. Most cases of it are caused by tumors. Others are caused by head injury. If your son is truly panhypopit, Kevin makes a good suggestion, you need to know why. Sheri P.S. Kevin, you aren't taking GH any longer? How do you do it? Do you feel ok without it? Since I'm so newly diagnosed, I'd be interested in learning more from you since you've been living with it for a while. |
