Hi, After 5 months of taking the bromocriptine, I had the surgery to remove my prolactinoma. I decided to get the surgery because I didn't like taking meds and because the neurosurgeon wasn't really sure if it was a prolactinoma or not, and I wanted to find out. The surgery went really well, and my pituitary gland is fine and I don't have to take any meds at all right now. I'm also amazed at how good I feel - before the surgery, I always felt tired and worried and grumpy, and I didn't even realize it until I compare it to how I feel now. I think how well your surgery goes depends on (1) your neurosurgeon, and (2) the location of your prolactinoma. My prolactinoma was connected to my pituitary by a stalk, so it was easy to remove while preserving the pituitary. That said, it is still a major surgery, not to be undertaken lightly. My ns was also fantastic (Dr. Kunwar at UCSF). Maybe you should talk to your neurosurgeon if you feel like you don't want to keep taking the meds. Good luck. |
