Hi Runawayfluf! Typically, your doctor will try meds first. Surgery is invasive, and with prolactinomas, they don't typically recommend surgery unles you are young and trying to get pregnant, and the tumor is very small, or if the patient cannot tolerate the meds, or if the tumor is non-responsive to meds and is growing, or if it is large impinging on adjacent brain structures. The first line therapy for proalctinomas is a dopamine agonist, typically dostinex or bromocriptine. Surgery at the skull base is a big deal, and if your tumor is responsive to dopamine agonist therapy, that is the most minimally invasive approach of all! ![]() |
