Ideally you will be able to work something out through one of the clinical trials but if this is not possible remember that Sandostatin LAR is not the only way to treat acromegaly. I started Sandostatin LAR several months ago and my hair is falling out. The neuroendo said that he has had patients lose ALL of their hair. He discussed mutliple options starting with decreasing the dose. If my IGF-1 increases he would then add dostinex to the lowered dose. If that is not successful then he would change to somavert and if that does not work consider radiation. I don't know what they plan to irradiate since the tumor is gone per the latest MRI. Sounds like a major discussion with your physician is the next step.

The cost of drugs is unbelieveable. In addition to Sandostatin LAR, I am on Humira  for my rheumatoid arthritis. Humira costs $1200. All together my monthly drug expenses are over $3000.00!!!!! Thank goodness my health insurance covers most of the cost. Unfortunately, I have lost all job flexiblity because of my need to maintain coverage. This is especially difficult as you feel crappy frequently and at times are not the best employee.
