The testing was done by Yale. The cost was covered by my insurance (Kaiser) but I think it runs about $750.00 if you pay out of pocket. "Diagnositic studies can be performed by an indirect method, linkage analysis, if a kindred contains more than one affected individual. If there is only one affected family member, direct mutation detection is necessary. Sequencing the coding region of MEN1 detects a mtation in at least 85% of typical families and a much lower percentage -- variant families (Bassett et al, Am J Hum Genetic 62:232, 1998). The protocal for direct detection used by this laboratory includes PCR ampliufication of the 9 coding exons of the MEN 1 gene with flanking regions containing intron-exon junctions. The PCR products are directly sequenced." No mild warning was meant. |
