Hello. I just had the pituitary function test to see if I produced enough cortisol under stress, and I do not. It is necessary for survival, so, your son should take the meds. Under stress, (physical stress, or illness), the dose should be doubled. And, if your son is ill, and vomiting, and cannot take the medication orally, he will need to go to the hospital to get an injection, and/or be monitored. Also, he should be wearing a medical alert bracelet that states he is Panhypopituitarism. Hydrocortisone. If your son has had a pituitary function test, and his baseline cortisol did not increase appropriately, it is evidence that he has a decreased ACTH reserve. I did not want to go back on the medication, but, it really is important! Please let me know if you have any more questions. Sincerely, Marcia |
