Hi Terry!

Your doctor realizes that your ACTH levels from the pituitary has declined, most likely as a delayed result from the radiation.

ACTH stimulates the adrenals to make cortisol, and you must have cortisol to live. Adrenal deficiency is not a pleasant disease - there is much written about secondary addisson's disease. If your body gets to where it cannot respond to stress, and I mean even every day life stress without hormone replacement, you could put yourself at great risk, and possibly even death.

You doctor will work with you to get your dosage just right, so that it is replacement dosage and not higher than what you need. Higher doses of corticosteriods can cause Cushing's symptoms, but if your doctor has your dosage adjusted to what your body needs, you should be o.k.
