Hello: I just wanted to share my experience with my supervised stopping of bromocriptine. Just a little background - I have been taking bromo for 23 years as a result of a very large prolactinoma. The tumor shrunk. In that time I had stopped taking bromo to have 2 kids. I have recently seen neurosurgeon who told me the now tumor is gone. After that, I had a terrible cold and stopped taking the meds as they stuffed me up even more. I felt good and asked my endo if I could stop taking it and just have monthly prolactin test to observe the levels. For the last 6 months I have totally stopped bromo. I felt good until the last month when I noticed that I was becoming increasingly angrier and my weight was slowly increasing (I gained 5 lbs in the six months). Whenever I received the results of my prolactin the nurse told me it was normal <20. In my previous experience, I did not feel good at 20....I felt good at 10. Upon visiting my endo, I looked at the actual prolactin numbers They were: 22, 23, 25, 27 and the last one in which I had started the bromo again was 19. After only 1 1/2 months, I have lost 3 lbs, and feel much less angry. So I guess in my experience I can't stop the bromo as I had hoped. But on the good side, the side effects from the meds has lessened since I stopped for that six months. No more stuffy nose, just a little fatique. I think I can handle the 1 pill for the rest of my life. |
