I agree with minnie this is a good thread.  My life has changed dramatically since the appoplexy of my pit tumor in 2001.  There are things that I can't do very well anymore such walk on unevenground (persistent double vision when I look down), handle stressful situations, have good balance, etc.  These limitations as well as becomeing aware of my own mortality and whats really important in our lives were the reasons that I decided to retire early from my career as a forester.

Since I have retired I am able to spend much more time with my dear wife.  We have taken a couple of 6 week motorhome trips last year and volunteer a couple of days a week at the local food pantry.  We are planning an 8 week trip next January and February.  I have found that the time with my wife and the volunteer work to be very statisfying.

I really don't morn my old self anymore because at this point I know that my illness has made my life better.  I now focus and appreciate the good things that I have been given.  If not for this I would still be working too hard trying to accumulate wealth and missing out on a special time in my life.
