Hi PT, It sounds like they are going to be very thorough, which is what you want. My first appointment with my neuro-ophth was 7 hours! I had every test possible-visual fields, vision, pressure, acuity, pictures, and anything else they could think of to test. I saw 3 neuro-ophths (my doctor and two residents) and they spent over 3 hours with me just going over my history and eye exam results. I see them twice a year, the appointments are now only 4-5 hours. I only have specific tests done, now. The first time they see you, they want to assess your eye and optic nerve health. They will want to see your MRI images. I think it is very important for all pituitary tumor patients to see a neuro-ophthalmologist. The pituitary tumor and hormonal imbalance it causes can and does cause vision problems. I had blurry vision for years and occassional double vision and floaters. My sight has deteriorated to the point that I need a new prescription every 1-2 years. I also have optical migraines and in the past have briefly lost my vision completely in one eye. I now see bright blue haze around lights at night. All pituitary tumors and hormonal imbalance can cause havoc with vision-not just pituitary tumors causing mass effect and pressing on the optic nerve. Good luck with your neuro-ophth appointment. If you live near Vandy in TN, I can recommend a great neuro-ophth. Theresa-I will be praying for you as you have your surgery on the 28th. Where will you be having it? Take care. You're in my prayers. Meri |
