A non functioning pituitary tumor can easily cause prolactin levels to rise up to 200. Pressure from the tumor causes the prolactin level to rise, and a change in pressure can cause the level to go up or down. Prolactinomas almost always cause very high prolactin levels. So far I have not talked to a person who had their tumor removed and the biopsy confirmed it was a prolactinoma, when their prolactin levels were under 200. Prolactinomas can cause huge rises in elevation. Many doctors assume that if the prolactin level is elevated you have a prolactinoma, mine did. The biopsy proved him wrong.
