Hi Debb,
 
I don't know the answer to your question for sure but I think it has to do with something in how the contrast shows up on the MRI.  When I saw a neurologist after my MRI, he explained to me that the tumor would have showed up differently with contrast on the MRI if it was malignant.  Again, I don't know the science behind it but that's how it was explained to me.
