PTresearcher2: I'm having my surgery at Stanford. Of course, I just heard that I have yet another UTI. This is a chronic problem. I'm starting antibiotics today so hopefully things will be under control by Thursday. I left a message at the surgeon's office to see if I can still have the surgery. AGHHHH!!!!!! If they are unable to localize a tumor, they are assuming that the problem is hyperplasia and will remove as many parathyroid glands as it takes to get my PTH down to normal. They do interoperative monitoring and pathology. They stated that they will probably have to take 3.5 glands. I have acromegaly. The pituitary tumor was removed 12/04 but I have remaining cells and my IGF-1 levels are still elevated. Sandostatin did not do the trick and my hair fell out so now I am on Somavert. Unfortunately, my liver enzymes are elevated so who knows what will happen. Thanks for the website. I'm sorry to read about your problems - hope they get that under control soon. |
