Hi Dena, I was diagnosed and had Transphennoidal (sp?) surgery 23 yrs ago. At the time I saw prestigious neurosurgeron Dr. Charles Wilson at UCSF. He was one of the pioneers in the Transphennoidal method of surgery. But he did not do my surgery. But when I had my surgery, it was still fairly new. So prior to that they'd cut you ear to ear and went in through the top, which is way more complicated and dangerous. Another thing was is that they did not have MRIs. And CTs rarely showed them. On mine they saw an indentation into the optic nerve. I had symptoms in the late 60s and a doctor ordered test, but at that time technology and awareness was not anywhere near where it is today. So it wasn't until 1983, that I was finally diagnosed. So your mom could very well have a Pituitary tumor, even now. But nevertheless she should really make sure that she has full body bone density scans. As far as we know my mother never had a pit tumor and we are as different as day and night. She was underweight and taken out of school due to it......so she never even went to high school. I have always been overweight and now obese as an adult. But my mother got osteoporosis and has lost 9" inches in height. She was 5'5" and is now 4'8" and she weighs about 108#. I doubt that she has a pit tumor because with all the bone loss, she has never broken a bone and she's 93. |
