Oh, and yes, sporadic periods and weight gain could also be a sign that you are perimenopausal. Hopefully you can find a good doctor who can sort all of this out for you. It took me 5 years and over 20 consultations to find doctors who understand what is going on with me, and even they say they aren't sure they can help me. Part of the problem is that even the pituitary specialists and endocrinologists don't have a good understanding of our hormones. Measuring hormones isn't like measuring sodium and potasium, which have strict ranges at which we know a person's level is normal. Hormones, are not like other metabolites in the body, that have normal ranges, since a small variation in our hormones can lead to devastating symptoms, and each person has their own set of what is normal for them, and yet their hormone levels may fall in a normal range.
