Hi Diane, I have actually talked with Dr. James Norman. I have not had the
sestemabi scan done. He also told me that high calcium is never normal. I have
been told that they are 99% sure that I have a parathyroid tumor. My first test
for calcium in 2003 was higher than normal. The endo was concerned, so he
repeated it. It was high again. Mine is anywhere from 10.3 (10.2 is normal) to
11.2. My ionized calcium is also high. I have not had it checked recently. Oh,
I also consulted a vit D expert and he recommended I see Dr. Norman. I do
have symptoms - primarily the osteopenia/osteoporosis and osteomalacia. I also
have calcium deposits (stones) in my teeth and bones. I am told I will
eventually have kidney & gall stones. I need to have parathyroid surgery to
prevent them. I am glad that you are seeing your endo @ Hopkins. I am sure
he will stay on top of things. How often is he checking your calcium? Have you
had your ionized calcium & PTH checked? Have you had a scan done? Take care.
You're in my prayers. Meri
