The fat might be the buffer you need until the radiation goes into effect, then 
as long as the tumor that is left (if it is left) on the gland grows, the 
doctos can manage that seperately.   I have a friend who had an acth secreting 
tumor grow into the cavernous sinus. Surgery did remove it off the gland, and 
they did radiosurgery on the cavernous sinus area - similar procedure to what 
you describe.   She was told that there was a slight liklihood that she might 
loose some pituitary hormones from the multiple surgeries (not the radiosurgery 
- since the aim was not at the pituitary).   It seems to have worked, because 
not only is she in cushings remission, she had her second child this last year. 
  I can only think that many surgeons don't do his technique simply because of 
patient demographics and expertise.   I'm glad you consulted with him.
