----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on Pituitary Chat
----------------------------------------------------------- From: MinnieChat Message 4 in Discussion I like Dr. McCutcheon. He is managing my case now . I'd ask him what he thinks. Those kind of questions are really aimed to an expert neurosurgeon after he has thoroughly reviewed a case, inclusive of scans and surgical notes from your last surgeries. My friend had surgery at MDA two weeks ago (her third). The first two surgeries at another institution "missed" tumor that he found had invaded the dura. During her surgery two weeks ago, he removed some dura that had tumor invasion and cleaned out the scar tissue and removed as much tumor that was still in the sella as he could see. Her post op labs were really promising. Based on what he saw during surgery, he is recommending to my friend to consider stereotactic radiation for her particular case/tumor presentation, as the chance for recurrence is high, in his opinion. MDA has a pathology dept right next to the O.R. that can check pathology while the surgery is going on. The images can be piped in directly over their network into the O.R. for surgeon review.I've never heard of getting samples pre-surgery though. In my case, he is recommending another surgery if a tumor is shown on MRI, otherwise radiation if no tumor is found. What I like about talking to Dr. McCutcheon is that over the years, everything he has told me, I've been able to find in the medical literature from seperate sources. Furthermore, MDA is a state hospital. With the docs being on salary, their motivation for caring is missing the color of green. In other words, the docs like McCutcheon really care on account of being allowed to care instead of worrying how to make the next rent payment. If you decide to come down, I'd be more than happy to sit in the hospital cafe with you and your family/friend(s) and chat!
