I'm not rich either, but 14k was worth the experience I had. Think about this - some people pick whoever is on their insurance and end up with a crappy result. Is that worth saving a few bucks? The consult fees bothered me, too. It is frustrating to pay that much to someone when you aren't even sure you're going to use them.
